Sámi bucketlistu

Finally, Sarakka's play is on stage!

23.09.25

«Sámi bucketlistu» is the first play written by Sarakka Gaup. She is a trained actor, but she wanted to tell in her own words how it can be when a person is looking for her own identity.

– It has been very fun and a little difficult, says Sarakka about this work. She thinks this has been a good experience, from which she has learned a lot and expanded her artistic position.

Dreams in a list

A bucket list is a list that a person writes of their dreams and aspirations – the things they want to do or experience in life.

The play «Sámi bucketlistu» tells the story of Iŋgá, who does not know much about Sámi culture and customs. Her cousin Sáve challenges her to make a list that will make Iŋgá the best Sápmelaš ever – a real Sámi superhero.

The main character Iŋgá can be a little reminiscent of playwright Sarakka. And she says that the manuscript has come from within her, because Sarakka also has such a Sámi bucket list.

Sarakka says that her own bucket list has a line that says he wants to write a new Sámi play.

Now she can mark «check» on that line.

Hopes to entertain

Friday, September 26, 2025 is the premiere, and Sarakka admits that she is very excited.

Se has a good feeling. She sees that the play is made in a very "cool" way:

– I hope it will make the audience will laugh, even though the theme of the play is about identity, politics and Sámi society, which in itself is not just a game.

Sarakka says she has learned through this work that Sámi society is quite open, and that new ideas are welcome.
