Artist partner Máret Ánne Sara will be the first sami / Norwegian artist to be invited to Tate Modern's Turbine Hall. World-renowned Tate Modern and Hyundai Motor announced today that Máret Ánne Sara is the artist of the next year in the massive exhibition hall, as Hyundai Motor expands its cooperation until 2036.

Turbine Hall has been a place of exhibition for 25 years, and the artist herself says this is special for her:

– This is so great that I don't really understand what I've either promised or gotten myself into, says an excited Máret Ánne Sara.

Sara says Turbine Hall is an incredibly large room of a size she's never been working in before. It brings new ways of working for her. More can't be told about this yet, says the artist.

The Turbine Hall is 26 meters tall and 3,300 m2 large. Since the opening in 2000, 60 million viewers have visited this venue.

Karin Hindsbo, Director of Tate Modern said: “Máret Ánne Sara is among a prolific group of Sámi artists who have received widespread international attention in recent years for making visible the issues facing Sápmi and Sámi people. By addressing the major social, ecological and political concerns of her community, Sara hopes not only to increase interest and awareness, but also to effect real change. I’m thrilled she will be creating her first work in the UK here at Tate Modern and I look forward to seeing how she will transform the Turbine Hall. I’m sure it will be both challenging and full of wonder.”

Máret Ánne Sara's exhibition will be open to the public from October 14, 2025 to April 6, 2026.
