From Nordic witch hunt to social persecution in our time

7/11/20

Kunsthal Charlottenborg, København, Denmark

7 nov – 17 jan 2021

This autumn exhibition at Kunsthal Charlottenborg focuses on the witch and the Nordic witch hunt. With contemporary art as a lens, the exhibition examines the illuminated history of the 17th-century witch persecution, and invites the audience to reflect on social persecution in our time.

The participating artists explore how different forms of discrimination and hatred spread – from small neighborly disputes to major social conflicts in society, from governments to other political institutions – and question how such narratives and their victims are often written out in history.

Artists: Pia Arke, La Vaughn Belle, Anna Betbeze, Louise Bourgeois, Youmna Chlala, Sidsel Meineche Hansen, Hans Ragnar Mathisen, Virginia Lee Montgomery, Sandra Mujinga, Rasmus Myrup, New Noveta, Carol Rama, Máret Ánne Sara, Aviva Silverman, Carmen Winant, Cecilia Vicuña

The exhibition is curated by Alison Karasyk and Jeppe Ugelvig.
